Hope
Description
:
‘Hujan emas di negeri orang, Hujan batu di negeri sendiri' is a Malay proverb that is associated to this artwork. The rubber plantation metaphorically symbolises our country, as it is still one of the source of economy since before independence. The monarch butterfly is popular with migration characteristics and the subject relates to our successful youth who try to get a good profession overseas. However, they can also gain experience and skills, and still be able to move forward, albeit in their own country to contribute a level playing field for the nation. This would benefit future generations to lead our people.

Self-Portrait
Description
:
That is my self-portrait in the middle of all three portraits. I'm wearing a high school uniform to represent when I was a high school student while standing in front of Chong Hwa Independent High School. The high school shows both "中华独立中学" and "Sekolah Menengah Kesendirian Chong Hwa" on the wall alongside two New Year couplets on both sides of the wall. My action and expression exhibit my surprise that I am connected or related to the two other portraits in the background: one that has influenced my interests from high school, and the other that has always influenced my whole life. The dusking sky conveys my high school part of life.

The Long Journey
Description
:
The artwork tells the journey of young people in this colorful world. While the railway represents the pathway of a journey, the box metaphorically symbolises young people. It depicts that even though young people can be very nice, they are still fragile. Like a baby, they will always ask and imitate. As their journey moves forward, they will strive to try new things, whether good or bad. They will not admit anything as bad until the journey has ended.

Night Before Syawal
Description
:
Night Before Syawal reminisced about a past celebration of Eid Aidilfitri after the fasting month. The moment I captured the event was when cannons were being played, firecrackers were being lit in my village, there were fairy lights in every house, and it was a pleasant situation. At the same time, I wondered if the situation was similar to bomb explosions in Syria with the surrounding houses flashing candlelight. From my perspective, wars are generally controversial. As history have seen the deadliest conflict in the Second World War, when are we ever going to learn to live in peace? I painted the fairy lights as a celebration symbol while the star signifies hope that guide us through the night/ dark times in life. The ambiguous two-dimensional weapon can be referred to the conflict wars around the world. The background made of unorganised words shows the ignorance to start a war.

A Coined Message
Description
:
I inserted an image of one of the cigarette brands on the coin. Cigarettes are a kind of bribery that is often done by white collar criminals. While it looks legal on the surface, there are a handful of corrupt recipients willing to break the law by accepting a pack of cigarette. The word found on the coin, "Pencuci Mulut" means that such bribery will be kept secret by the givers and takers of corruption.

Virtual Reality of Skating
Description
:
The concept for my picture is the Future of Virtual Skateboarding Game because my idea is to make the image looks as if it is an ultra high-definition graphics game. I used light drawing to give it a futuristic look. The red light drawing on my model means the game could be an action or adventurous type of game. The skateboard that my model is holding mainly displays the game is about skateboarding whereas the background reveals a futuristic virtual world.

Enguinitys of Youth
Description
:
My photo is about the ingenuity of youth where i captured an image of my model and drew a lightning force from the back of his body to show that he‘s running. By setting my camera to BULB, I drew these designs on him using green and blue light painting. Though I found that to be much more interesting, it can be quite challenging at the same time. It is with patience that I finally managed to accomplish my task well.

Paper Thoughts
Description
:
‘Paper Thoughts’ is about a self-recovery from social media. The paper planes in the video are a representation of (S.O.S) posts, tweets, and captions transmitted to one’s social post on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and what not. As young adults, it is common to vent and rant their personal feelings virtually rather than confronting the person personally. It makes them feel better instead of dealing with the discomfort of confrontation. However if an individual isn’t cautious, it could lead them to anxiety and depression. The black figure collecting paper planes in the video refers to the subconscious mind recalling a person’s negative thoughts. This film serves a reminder to all that although social media offers a platform to share various things, sharing your raw and unfiltered thoughts will not only exaggerate problems, trigger emotions and reactions, it will also create an unnecessary burden. When a person’s realisation of social media does more harm than good sets in, that’s when the individual decides to grow and move on.
The story is about a group of people who went jungle trekking at a lake. There is an urban legend that says that anyone who calls a person’s name in the jungle could summon problems.

An imagination exercise of how children process complex and abstract emotions using physical imagery they are familiar with. Often Children will liken a situation or object to things they know to better process in their mind. For example, the sun is round and orange, like an orange.
